How did you start your business?
After Rachel gained the wealth of 25 years of flower shop experience, she decided to start an Event Florist company that specialised in event and wedding flowers only. As a mother and daughter team, we have always had flowers in our lives! Rachel was always involved with flowers from a young age with her father being a keen gardener which progressed into her training in flowers shops in Australia. As mum often took me to help her at work it was a natural progression for me to start working in the flower business. After I left school I trained in Holland to receive my Dutch Masters Diploma in floral art and shortly after began working with Rachel.
What is your design aesthetic?
We pride ourselves on not specialising on one style or design but
instead suiting our client’s vision.
What inspires you?
So many things inspire us – the venue we are working in, the season, the
flowers themselves and of course our amazing clients!
What are the trends, flowers & colours that are unique to your region?
As Planet Flowers is based in Scotland we design many weddings and
events in castles. A Scottish theme is very popular involving thistles and heather. There has
been a high rise in “green” weddings and events lately also, which has encouraged more of
a country garden style.
Are you a retail shop, studio/warehouse or home based?
Both studio and warehouse based.
Do you offer any services in addition to floral designs?
We focus on wedding and event floral design only.
What does your toolbox look like?
Our toolbox is a huge walk in cupboard! Full of everything you could
possibly imagine from ribbon and sparkly accessorises to a hammer and nails!
What tool in your toolbox can’t you live without?
Sticky dots! Our first aid kit so we can keep working no matter what..
What’s your favorite flower?
Anything that is in season – that is when it is always the highest quality. We love versatile flowers which look just as great on their own or in a design of them en masse.
