I want to…

We are doing a little twist on New Year’s Resolutions (aka – putting it out there in the universe!), instead of resolutions we are asking a few floral designers what they’d like to do in the coming year(s) with their floral design careers.

I want to…
.. work at Flower Magazine (by Alicia)
.. Launch Exquisite Florals which I’m getting close to and hoping it’s done by mid Jan 2012 (by Alex)
..freelance for the Rose Bowl parade!! I imagine the experience would be exhausting but amazing! Anyone want to go with me? (by Cori)
.. decorate The White House (by Chuck)
.. build a barn and create the work space of my dreams (by Tracy)
.. design and create the flowers & decor for a celebrity wedding (by Holly)

.. work at Meilland and create new rose varieties, or at least take a tour of their operation! (by Alicia)
.. have interns on board year round, bring on a full time sales person and lead designer. (by Courtenay)
.. Buy a building, were I can not only house my entire studio but also store all my props AND
rent for events as Chicago doesn’t’ have enough venues. (by Alex)
.. be the “ask the expert” in Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine (by Holly)
.. be published by flower magazine (by Holly)
.. study with Ariella Chezar (by Alicia)

    I want to -

Add an interview feature to my web site! Interested?
Spend more time creating and less time thinking about it.
    Take a business related class.
Follow fewer blogs. 300+ is too many! Flirty Fleurs makes the cut though, not to worry!

    • alicia says:

Sure, I’ll participate in your interview!
300+ blogs?? How do you do that?? Honestly, I follow about 5, yours is one of them. :)
Glad Flirty Fleurs made the cut!!

      • Sprout says:

Awesome! I’ll email you the interview. ;-)

Blogs rock! For a magazine junkie like me, they are the new magazine! Wedding blogs, flower blogs, design blogs, art blogs, decorating blogs, business blogs, gardening blogs, my local city blogs, food blogs, travel blogs, economics blogs, love them all! But my head will explode following them all.

  3. I want….
To be published 5 times this year.
Expand and open the rental end of our business.
Have a production manager, office manager and good freelance designer(s).
Complete the vision of what we have to do to move to or closer to Chicago in 2013.
Love what Sprout said, spend more time creating and less time thinking about it. So true.
Thanks Alicia! It feels so good to actually put this all out there!

I resolve to take only wedding work that I actually feel inspired by and meets a realistic budget. This has meant turning away a lot more weddings than usual, but since I also resolve to be able to spend time with our baby due in April I think it’s the right track for me!!

    • alicia says:

Alison, Congratulations on the baby news!! Taking only a handful of weddings that you are inspired by and excited to design from sounds like a darn good idea!!

  5. Tina says:

I want to find a way to shut it off – and just be! My business is my 3rd baby – it demands my attention all too often! I demand just 1 day out of the week – to just be with my family! OH and, stop comparing myself to others – I just want to BE! :)

    • alicia says:

Tina, I’d like to find a way to shut it off a bit, too. It’s hard!! I also agree with not comparing ourselves to others which is quite difficult, especially w/ all the blog features and social media. Can there be a balance??

  6. janet says:

Because I’m in a new market, my dreams are relatively small this year. I would be happy to book a dozen weddings.

  7. Connie says:

I want what Tina wants. And I want to find a way for my sister to blog for me. She’s great at it, and apparently has the time. Fits into what I want.
