Why Social Media for Flower Shops? by Sara Elizabeth Grossman

So you do weddings, you make custom arrangements, you satisfy every customer
that walks in your store. But do you keep in touch?

As a social media manager, keeping in touch is what I do all day. For Alaric Flower
Design in Midtown Manhattan, I’m constantly chirping. I chat with prospective
clients on Twitter and teach people #flowerfacts, I write blog posts about relevant
things in the flower world, I create Foursquare deals, and I update Facebook fans
with special deals like Free Delivery Friday! In addition to the social media, I
create emails about holidays for the large list of people who have ordered from us
previously.

Why is this important? Well, to remind people about holidays, for one! You
wouldn’t believe how many people forget about Father’s Day. And the other ever-
important reason: you’re still here providing the same wonderful services. It’s a
friendly reminder. Here are a few examples:

The next big holiday after Father’s Day is the Fourth of July! It’s not a flower
holiday, you say? How about a patriotic arrangement with sparklers in it? Or a
firework arrangement featuring pincushions? You just have to get creative, and
always remember: cross-post, cross-post, cross-post. Check-in at your store on
FourSquare? Upload a picture with it and cross-post it to Twitter and Facebook! Use
Constant Contact for your emails? Make sure to use the social media add-ins and
have it pop up on your Twitter feed! Right now is the time to get in on this kind of
networking; it is both fun and beneficial for your business!

If you want #flowerfacts, be sure to connect with Alaric Flower Design on Twitter:
@alaricflowers. And I’m on there, too as @sosarasaid. Good luck and happy tweeting!
